Navigating the Yellow Wind Formation: A Comprehensive Guide to Black Myth Wukong's Pivotal Chapter 2 Arena
Master the sprawling Yellow Wind Formation, a treacherous sub-region in Black Myth Wukong, through thorough exploration to uncover hidden treasures and defeat formidable guardians like the Gore-Eye Daoist.
As I ventured deeper into the treacherous lands of Black Myth Wukong, the Yellow Wind Formation emerged as a sprawling and multi-faceted sub-region, serving as the critical path to the chapter's final confrontation. This area, filled with winding paths, hidden treasures, and formidable guardians, demands thorough exploration from any player aiming to stand against the Yellow Wind Sage. With multiple entry points, a journey through this formation is as much about discovery as it is about survival.
My journey began from the Rock Clash Platform shrine within the Fright Cliff. Following the main path and deliberately avoiding the nearby building, I was immediately ambushed by a trio of Rat Governors. The strongest among them, once defeated, granted me the valuable Rat Governor (Spirit). Pushing past this skirmish, I found a welcome Meditation Spot just down a set of steps—a perfect place to regroup. Returning up the steps and taking a left revealed a shimmering golden pot containing a Celestial Taiyi Pill, a precious resource for the trials ahead.

The trail beyond the pot opened into a vast area of unstable sand, perfect for sliding. Here, two Rat Archers perched on a cliffside rained arrows down upon me. After dealing with them, I explored the pathway to its end, gathering a vital green wisp of Will.
Returning to the main sand ramp, I faced more Rat Archers before looting a small structure. Inside a chest, I found a Blood of the Iron Bull and random pieces of gold. Sliding down while evading further arrow fire, I arrived at a structure where a profound cutscene played. A headless monk appeared, bestowing upon me the powerful A Pluck of Many spell. Nearby, the activation of the Windseal Gate shrine provided a crucial checkpoint. This area also held a sealed gate, requiring the Keenness of Tiger and Sternness of Stone key items from the Tiger Vanguard and Stone Vanguard bosses, which ultimately leads to the Yellow Wind Sage's arena.
From the Windseal Gate, an alternate path beckoned for further exploration. A patrolling Weasel Captain was easily dispatched, and the trail yielded useful items like Fragrant Jade Flower and more Will. The path soon led to a tense battle with a Lingzhiling, followed immediately by the gruesome Gore-Eye Daoist. This boss's tactics were vile, splattering damaging pools of blood across the arena and attacking with wide staff swings. Victory rewarded me with the Gore-Eye Daoist (Spirit) and another Blood of the Iron Bull. Scouring the area, I also found Luojia Fragrant Vine hanging from a tree.
The exploration continued across a bridge, fighting Spearbones and Rat Warriors, then past Withered Corpses and a Ginsengling. A broken-down structure housed a wooden chest with Yaoguai Cores and Will. Up some stairs, a locked door barred my way, forcing a tactical retreat. I teleported back to the Crouching Tiger Temple to approach from another angle. Behind the temple, a hidden path began. A seemingly innocent mushroom revealed itself to be a burrowed Lingzhiling! After defeating it and climbing a set of steps, I faced a Rat Warrior and Archer duo, finding a Copper Pill soak in a golden container along the way.
Clearing more Withered Corpses led me to the Windrest Bridge shrine. After resting, I crossed a bridge guarded by a Spearbone and two Blazebones—prioritizing the fiery Blazebones made the fight manageable. This ushered me into Windrest Village, a deathtrap full of ambushing enemies: Blazebones, Withered Corpses, Spearbones, and a patrolling Rat Imperial Guard. The village was ripe for looting:
-
A barrel guarded by a Rat Imperial Guard and Withered Corpse contained Ascension Powder.
-
A small wooden chest outside a house held Tiny Piece of Gold and Silk.
-
After defeating a tough trio of Rat Imperial Guards (the strongest dropping the Rat Imperial Guard Spirit), I opened the door they guarded, progressing to the Windrest Hamlet shrine.
Near this shrine, a bridge was blocked by another group of Spearbones, Blazebones, and Withered Corpses. Again, eliminating the Blazebones first was key. Past them, a large wooden chest offered more Will and Silk. The path then led to a bridge blocked by the formidable mini-boss, the Tiger's Acolyte. 😰
This foe was relentless, employing swift, unpredictable claw and sword attacks. Defeating him was a major triumph, granting the crucial Old Rattle-Drum key item, a Blood of the Iron Bull, and the Tiger's Acolyte (Spirit). The Old Rattle-Drum is essential for unlocking additional boss fights elsewhere in Yellow Wind Ridge.
With the acolyte defeated, the path he guarded opened into a cave rich with resources like Purple Lingzhi, but also swarming with Swift Bats. Deep within, near a Blazebone by a large stone column, a small chest contained the Glazed Reliquary, a fascinating Curio. The cave's exit looped back to the familiar Rock Clash Platform shrine, effectively circling back on this intricate web of paths.
Before facing the final boss, I highly recommend a detour to the secret Kingdom of Sahali sub-region to obtain a special vessel that significantly eases the upcoming battle. After that preparation, returning to either the Windgate Seal or Cellar shrine places you just steps from the boss arena.
The climactic battle against the Yellow Wind Sage is a spectacle. He appears carrying a giant Buddhist monk head, wielding a trident with deadly proficiency. His arsenal is diverse and dangerous:
-
Ranged Sonic Waves: Projected from afar via trident swings.
-
Melee Trident Strikes: Powerful close-quarters combat.
-
Wind Manipulation: He controls the very air around him, making him a threat at any distance.
My journey through the Yellow Wind Formation was a masterclass in level design, blending intense combat, rewarding exploration, and strategic progression. From the initial skirmishes with rat foes to the epic showdown with the Sage, every corner of this formation holds a challenge or a treasure, making it an unforgettable segment of the pilgrimage through Black Myth Wukong. 🐒⚔️
