How to Defeat Lingxuzi, the First Yaoguai King in Black Myth: Wukong

Deep within the Forest of Wolves on Black Wind Mountain, the Destined One enters the resplendent Guanyin Temple and encounters Lingxuzi, the first Yaoguai King in Black Myth: Wukong. For players picking up the game in 2026, this early encounter remains a foundational test of preparation and timing. Although wolf-like enemies have already appeared, Lingxuzi introduces a more theatrical and punishing rhythm to the early game. The fight is not the hardest in the genre, but it rewards careful preparation and patient observation.

Before stepping into the temple arena, a few decisions can make the encounter much easier. If armour has not been crafted yet, this is the moment to visit a shrine and forge the Pilgrim's armour set, which raises defence significantly and outpaces the Folk Opera set that arrives as a preorder bonus. Spark Points should be spent rather than saved. Basic attributes such as maximum HP and stamina are always useful, but two investments stand out. Improving Immobilize allows the Destined One to deal more damage when an enemy is frozen, while unlocking Pillar Stance provides a safe overhead attack that works well against a low-moving opponent.

Players can also reawaken at a shrine to reallocate Spark Points if a different build feels more comfortable. The key is not to enter the temple with unused resources.

⚔️ How to Beat Lingxuzi

Lingxuzi attacks with physical blows and tends to circle his prey rather than applying relentless pressure. This means the Destined One can observe his movements and wait for clear openings. At the very start of the fight, however, Lingxuzi rushes forward with claw strikes, so it is safer to dodge twice instead of once before responding.

Because the boss stays low to the ground on all fours, the Pillar Stance heavy attack is especially useful. It lifts the Destined One above many of Lingxuzi's low swipes before crashing down from overhead. The attack can stagger him briefly, but he recovers quickly, so long combo chains are risky unless Immobilize is active.

Once about a quarter of his health is removed, Lingxuzi retreats to the rooftops of the temple and gate structures. He leaps from one structure to the next while eyeing the player. Keeping the lock-on active is essential here. When he finally pounces from above, a perfectly timed dodge creates a strong counter opportunity.

The grapple toss is the most difficult to predict, but despite its dramatic slow-motion leap, its damage is not significantly worse than one large ground swipe that connects. There is no phase change or new terrifying attack pattern after the rooftop sequence, so the same loop applies: wait, dodge, punish with Pillar Stance, and use Immobilize when the chance appears.

With Lingxuzi defeated, the Destined One receives 1049 XP, enough for another Spark Point or level, along with 705 Will and a Stone Spirit. The boss also drops a Grey Wolf Mask headgear and a Mind Core. The Mind Core may seem mysterious at first, but it becomes a valuable ingredient for crafting Celestial Medicine later, which upgrades personal stats.
